Post-Doctoral Studies
Between December 2023 and September 2024, I will be the Susan Manning Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities in Edinburgh, which is affiliated with Edinburgh University. My time there will be spent developing a new extended work with my colleagues Ensemble 1604 who I worked with extensively during my PhD. The new concert-length work, Micrographia, will explore and respond to Robert Hooke’s treatise that documented observations made through microscopes and telescopes. The book comprises descriptions of experiments Hooke made along with his highly detailed hand drawn images from his studies. The new work will be made collaboratively, building on the practice we have developed since 2018. The work will be composed for recorder (László Rózsa, counter-tenor (Rory McCleery), theorbo (Alex McCartney), baroque violin (Emma Lloyd) and baroque cello (Lucia Capellaro).
